The Island of Madeira

Flower Island Information

Madeira also called the “Flowerpot of the Atlantic” has the oldest tourist tradition in all of Europe and is a favorite destination of hiking fans and nature lovers for the whole year.

The archipelago of Madeira is of volcanic origin. However, there has been no volcanic activity since its discovery. The main island of Madeira has a length of about 59 km and a diameter of about 26 km at the widest point.

The small neighbor island Porto Santo is about 42 km away from Madeira and can be reached by ferry bewuem in about 2.5 hours and is very worthwhile. The bathing suits should not be forgotten, because the nine kilometers long sandy beach Campo de Baixo invites you to swim. Many tourists and locals come to the island for this reason, even more so because Madeira itself has hardly any sandy beaches.

Madeira offers a pleasant climate from January to December, so that the wonderful fauna and flora can also be seen all year round.

The moderate climate makes this vacation destination so attractive and popular. The reason for the mild and changeable weather are the many microclimates, caused by the very mountainous landscape (alone 3 mountains of about 1800 m). Therefore, the climate can be very different depending on the location, rain in the east and sun in the west – or vice versa – are not uncommon.

Wonderful plants, even on the roadsides, enchant every nature lover.
Also, the island is almost free of any crime and is considered one of the safest vacation destinations in the world.

There are no limits to sporting activities such as hiking, trekking, golf, deep sea fishing and swimming.

Excellent wellness offers as well as very good food, from fine to rustic, and last but not least the famous Madeira Wine – complete the offer on this island.
