An ideal vantage point for watching the sunset.
- Paul do Mar
The path leads directly from the house down the Rua da Massapez road and then over the Vereda dos Zimbreiros to Paul do Mar (approx. 550 metres downhill).
- Pico do Areeiro
For those with a little more stamina, the more distant tours to Pico Ruivo and Pico do Areeiro are suitable - access is via the north side of the island
- Levadas
At around 2,150 kilometres, these irrigation channels on Madeira are among the longest artificial systems in the world.
Also worth mentioning are the hikes from Paul da Serra down to the 25 Fuentes (25 springs) advertised in the travel guides
Restaurants
In Calheta
The Italian restaurant "Manifattura Di Gelato" - located directly at the harbour/marina of Calheta.
In addition to typical Italian dishes of very good quality, there are also many flavours of ice cream.
There are also other restaurants, e.g. in the Hotel Calheta Beach. The hotel's public restaurant (Onda Azul) (entrance from the beach) has been remodelled and we always remember it for its excellent fish (tuna, espada etc.) and delicious desserts.
Paul do Mar
A little away from the hustle and bustle of the small harbour is the somewhat inconspicuous Calhau's Beach Bar restaurant. We are convinced that this restaurant is always worth a visit. Here you can enjoy freshly prepared fish (the tuna steak is highly recommended) served on the terrace directly overlooking the Atlantic.
Ponta do Pargo
The Casa de Chá "O Fio" is a small restaurant near the Ponta do Pargo lighthouse. (Note opening hours - Sunday is usually a day off)
With a small, straightforward menu and freshly prepared dishes, it is well worth a visit after visiting the lighthouse. The bacalhau (stockfish) deserves special mention.
Other restaurants can be found in the surrounding area – we are always grateful for new discoveries and tips as well as experiences from other guests.
